The
message of this cartoon is about the Purchase of Alaska by the U.S. The other
message of this cartoon is that Seward’s purchase was a bad purchase. The
purchase of Alaska was not a good purchase to many Americans thought it was
just full of ice and was no use in materials or resources. Some people turned out to be wrong. Seward was buying from Russia. There were still Russians in Alaska, but the U.S let them stay. Other
opinions people are that people thought Seward’s purchase was useful in the end
and gained lots of materials and resources from the purchase. The techniques
used are labeling because there are signs in the background. Another technique
used is symbolism because it uses Uncle Sam to represent America. Seward knew what he was buying and what he was getting himself into, so he didn't hesitate.
