Spanish-American War

This cartoon's message is about the U.S president not wanting to join the join the Spanish-American War. President McKinley tried to broker a more peaceful policy between the Spanish government and Cuban insurrectionists. The other message of this cartoon is that the U.S was the hold-out of the War. McKinley was not sure if the U.S should go into the war and this cartoon shows it. The treatment of the Cubans is why the U.S joined the war. Yellow journalism was a big part of the U.S going into war too. Other opinions people might have are that the U.S should have joined the war earlier. The techniques used in this cartoon is symbolism because it uses the bald eagle, which represents the U.S. It also uses exaggeration because the bald eagle and Uncle Sam is bigger than everything else because it shows the military power in the U.S. The dead person on the ground represents the other country. The lady is the Cuban getting saved by the U.S.
